Maggie's Hat
Remembering Maggie
Maggie Wardle was a 19-year-old college sophomore from Plainwell, Michigan, attending Kalamazoo College in Michigan in 1999.  Her life ended in a relationship violence incident on that campus on October 18, 1999.  Since that time her family has devoted her memory to raising awareness of relationship violence prevention.  Many of Maggie’s friends, as well as her family, have taken up this cause.

This October 18, 2009 will mark the tenth anniversary of Maggie’s death on the Kalamazoo College campus.  Her family is working now to set up activities to remember Maggie, especially in this anniversary year.  One of the activities has been to create, along with Handweavers Store in Kalamazoo, a knit hat pattern called
“Maggie’s  Hat".

The owners of Handweavers, Marjan and Jamie Marsman, have generously designed this knit hat in Maggie’s honor. The stitches and design in the hat pattern incorporate Maggie’s interests in family, friends, faith and butterflies.
